Two hours out of Sydney, and the Blue Mountains stop feeling like Sydney at all.
Escarpments drop into misty valleys, lookouts stretch out in layers of blue, and pockets of ancient eucalypt forest make a quiet portrait feel like it happened somewhere far from anywhere.
It’s a beautiful place to get married, and a challenging one to photograph. Fourteen years and 700+ weddings in, we’ve learned exactly what that specificity asks for.
Why the Blue Mountains Are a Dream for Weddings
The season changes the mood here more than most places we shoot.
Autumn brings colour through Leura and Mount Wilson. Winter fog softens the garden estates around Blackheath into something quiet and close. Spring gardens come back sharp, and on a clear afternoon at Echo Point, near Katoomba, the light throws warm gold across the escarpment, though it never lasts as long as you’d want.
That’s exactly why local knowledge matters. A portrait spot glowing at 4pm can be sitting in shadow twenty minutes later, and wind up here does its own kind of damage to a schedule.
We don’t fight the mountain for the shot we had in mind; we read what the day is doing and move with it, whether that’s a full wedding or a Blue Mountains elopement.

We shoot documentary and candid, which means real moments get captured as they happen rather than arranged for the camera. A parent pausing outside the ceremony doors. Someone losing the fight against tears. The laugh that breaks the tension mid-portrait.
We give calm direction when it actually helps, then step back. With a camera-shy couple, that sometimes means the first ten minutes are just us talking through what happens next, before the camera properly comes out. By the time it does, most of the nerves are gone.
