Only one wedding happens at The Woodhouse Wollombi on any given day — the 100 acres off Paynes Crossing Road, the lake and the timber reception hall are yours alone, with room for 33 of your people to stay the night. It’s the kind of scale that makes a Woodhouse Wollombi wedding feel less like an event and more like a weekend away with everyone you love.
We’ve photographed weddings at The Woodhouse Wollombi, so this guide covers the ceremony spots, the light and the practical details from our own shoots. See how we work as Hunter Valley wedding photographers.
Ceremony Locations at The Woodhouse Wollombi
There are five main places to get married here, and all of them seat up to 60 with an arbour, bench seating and a signing table and chairs already included. If it rains, the ceremony moves under cover to The Woodhouse’s big dancefloor.
The call is made with you on the day, with no fixed cutoff. One couple’s review said they wouldn’t even call it a wet-weather option, just another option, which is about the best thing anyone says about a rain plan.
The Willows
Lakeside, framed by willows, with magnolias, ornamental pears and golden elms in the backdrop. It’s the most popular of the five for photos and our own pick for the best spot on the estate. The swing is a few steps away. The walk from the vows to your first portraits is a short one.
The Pines
Raised up and enclosed by rows of narrow junipers, with views down across the lake. It feels more structured and more private than The Willows.
The Paperbarks
A softer, more textured setting among the estate’s paperbark trees, with light filtering down through the canopy. The brochure calls it “the romantic Paperbarks”, and it suits couples who want something quieter than the lake.
The Courtyard
The modern option, all clean architectural lines, for couples who’d rather skip the garden look altogether. It’s open to the sky, with less shade than the tree-lined spaces. On a bright afternoon, that matters. (The venue’s website calls it the Central Courtyard.)
The Lawn
Wide open, with long views and a sculpture as its focal point. The venue counts it among its own favourite ceremony spots, and it’s the one we rate alongside The Willows for photos. You’ll see it called the Infinity Lawn on the website.
The Overwater Pavilion
A sculptural structure out over the lake, mostly used for drinks straight after the ceremony. It can host a ceremony too, but only a small one. Keep the guest list very short.
Reception Spaces at The Woodhouse
The Woodhouse
The hall seats 50 to 150 under 7-metre ceilings, with 4-metre windows and a freestanding fireplace. A large covered dancefloor strung with fairy lights sits alongside it, along with the venue’s own outdoor bar for lakeside drinks, and the reception package includes an outdoor firepit with seating.
The one catch is acoustic. All those hard surfaces and that high ceiling make the room echo, and a few guests have noticed it during the speeches. It’s worth telling whoever has the microphone to slow down.
The Outdoor Garden Reception
If you’d rather keep the whole day outside, there are two garden packages built around the lawn, the vine-covered pergola and the Overwater Pavilion. The Small Garden Wedding takes up to 60 guests for up to 10 hours, finishing by 11pm. It comes with the outdoor bar, all the glassware and tableware, Bluetooth speakers, bar tables, a night in the Bridal Suite and a dedicated event manager, and The Woodhouse’s dancefloor is kept back purely as the wet-weather plan.
The Micro Garden Wedding is the smaller version: up to 30 guests at four handmade herringbone tables, five hours, done by 6.30pm, with one bar staff member included and no use of The Woodhouse at all. Both run food and drinks on consumption through Fennel & Co.
What a Woodhouse Wollombi Wedding Costs
The venue confirmed its 2027 figures directly, so what’s below is current. It’s a flat venue fee, with catering on top from the exclusive caterer, Fennel & Co, the catering business Tess and James run.
Package | Price | When |
Wedding Platinum (Mid-Week Estate) | $13,000 | Monday to Thursday, all year |
Wedding Gold (Single Night Celebration) | $14,500 low season, $17,000 high season | Friday or Saturday, one night |
Wedding Ultimate (Weekend Estate Experience) | $15,900 low season, $18,500 high season | The full weekend |
Small Garden Wedding (outdoor only) | $8,500 | Up to 60 guests, Monday to Wednesday or any day within 5 months of booking |
Micro Garden Wedding (outdoor only) | $4,500 | Up to 30 guests, Monday to Wednesday |
The three estate options include the full Woodhouse reception, ceremony set-up at any of the five spaces and accommodation in The Barnstay for 15, with the Bridal Suite included depending on the package. The two garden options are outdoor-only.
Drinks packages run from $10 per person per hour (House) to $13.50 (Basic), $14.50 (Gold) and $17 (Premium), all with a five-hour minimum and bar staff charged on top. For 100 guests on the House package, that’s $5,000 before staff.
A non-refundable booking fee holds the date, and the balance is due seven days before the wedding. Cancelling 9 to 12 months out costs $4,000, and 6 to 9 months out costs $6,000. Inside six months the full fee is payable, with 80% refunded if the date re-books. Prices step up each calendar year. Ask the venue for the current figures before you commit.
Photographer’s Notes
Best Shooting Spots on the Grounds
The Willows is the one we’d start with, for the ceremony and for portraits at any time of day. The swing by The Willows is where we take couples straight after the vows. It’s our go-to for the first bride-and-groom portraits, while everyone else heads for a drink.
The Lawn works for an elegant ceremony and for portraits, and its sculpture gives the frame a natural focal point.
After dark, the covered dancefloor and its fairy lights carry the reception, with the bar right alongside. The outdoor firepit is the other evening spot, and its seating pulls people in once the formalities are over.
In autumn, roughly April and May, the venue says the grounds turn red, bronze, gold and orange across the whole estate. Worth knowing if you’re still choosing a date.
Lighting Notes
The usual rule applies: the open spots look their best in the soft light late in the day. The Willows and The Paperbarks sit under tree canopy that filters the light. The Courtyard and The Lawn are fully open and take the sun as it comes. Inside the hall, the 4-metre windows give strong natural light through the day.
Golden hour here lasts 30 to 40 minutes, not the full hour most couples picture. In June it starts around 4.18pm, with sunset at 4.55pm. In January it starts around 7.32pm, with sunset just after 8pm.
The sun sets towards the west-south-west in summer and swings round to the west-north-west in winter, and it drops behind the trees and terrain a little before the official time.

What Makes a Wedding at the Woodhouse Wollombi Unforgettable
It’s a destination-wedding format, with exclusive use of the property for one wedding a day and 33 of your people sleeping on site across The Barnstay, the Bridal Suite and eight Eco-Suites that opened in October 2025.
The accommodation side also runs as Redwood Park Wollombi. Few venues give you five ceremony settings this different from each other, and fewer still have an indoor rain plan that couples rate this highly.
Dogs are welcome in the Bridal Suite while you get ready. Mobile signal is patchy at best, which one celebrant who works here counts as a plus. It changes the atmosphere: everyone ends up fully present. And the owners reply to almost every review, including the critical ones, usually with something specific.
Wedding Day Challenges and Tips
Alcohol service ends at 11.15pm (10pm on Sundays), the music stops at 11.30pm and everyone has to be off site by midnight. The garden packages finish earlier: 11pm for the Small Garden Wedding and 6.30pm for the Micro.
Confetti has to be biodegradable. Drones have been fine on our shoots, but the venue hasn’t put it in writing, so check with them before you book a drone operator.
With signal this patchy, send guests the directions and timings before they leave home. Parking isn’t a worry, with room for 36 cars at the house and 17 more at the accommodation.

Similar Wedding Venues to Consider
The Woodhouse is the only one of the Wollombi wedding venues in our guides. These three sit a little further out, matched on guest numbers and how you pay. For a wider list, see our guide to Hunter Valley wedding venues.

Adams Peak Country Estate
In Broke, the closest of the three, with the same whole-estate, stay-on-site setup but two reception spaces: The Barn for up to 150 seated or 180 cocktail, and the open-air Hay Shed for up to 180 cocktail, with valley views in place of a lake.

Wallalong House
Further out near Morpeth, with a similar venue-hire-plus-catering model and guests staying on site, but built around a heritage homestead and old fig trees, with room for up to 300 across two tents.

Greystone Estate
In Pokolbin, with similar hire-plus-catering pricing and multi-night accommodation, but smaller and more boutique, with on-site stays for around 32 and landscaped, modern grounds.
Planning a Woodhouse Wollombi Wedding
The Woodhouse Wollombi suits couples who want a full weekend with their closest friends and family staying on site, the whole estate to themselves and a rain plan they won’t resent. It’s a harder fit for a guest list over 150, or if you want to walk to a pub afterwards. Wollombi village isn’t next door.
